Montaysia Yuneek is an artist whose practice is rooted in a search for freedom.

As a painter and multimedia artist, she creates celestial, expansive, and sometimes abstract, worlds populated by floating orbs, flying figures, swirling lines, dots, hair, and abstract forms. Her work draws from Black radical traditions and folktales, ancestral histories, and Children's Books.

She refuses the idea that Black stories need to be told in one straightforward way. Instead, she creates space for multiplicity—for histories, identities, memories, dreams, and possibilities to exist together.

Her work is about imagining what freedom can look like.

Montaysia also brings this commitment beyond her studio in all she does. She illustrates children's books and cares deeply about making art accessible to people who are too often excluded from traditional "Fine Art" spaces. She believes in the power of art not only to represent people, but to create new possibilities for them.

She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting with a minor in African American Studies from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in 2025. She is currently pursuing her M.F.A. in Studio Art at Pratt Institute. Montaysia has exhibited in A Meadows Prayer (2024), her solo show, at Available Space Art projects in Las Vegas, NV , Creativity Offers Us a new formula for life (2024) at the University of Winchester in the United Kingdom, Home is a Place Rooted Inside My Throat (2025) at Sahara West Library in Las Vegas, NV, and more recently, Babel (2026) at Pratt Institute.
